When we film techniques with our experts, sometimes we end up with some extra footage. A lot of times it's stuff that doesn't quite fit with the flow of the techniques we are showing for the month.
Sweeping from the Open Guard with a Cross Arm Grip
This week we are pleased to welcome Luigi Mondelli to BJJ Weekly as Expert of the Month! Luigi is 3rd degree black belt and is the head instructor for Best Way BJJ and American Top Team in Conneticut.
A Stalled Single Leg Takedown Attempt Turned into Taking the Back by Rolles
In this segment Rolles Gracie shows us a really nice variation from last week's single leg takedown counter. Last week we saw how you can transition from a stalled single leg takedown into a nice Kimura finish. This week Rolles shows us another variation for when your opponent wants to spin and try and roll up into side control, which is a common reaction. Rolles uses the momentum from his opponents roll to transition into a back mount.
American Top Team Founder, Ricardo Liborio shares a very nice technique for taking the back from top half guard. Then he sets up a bow and arrow choke. Try this one on your training partners next time you roll and they’ll be wondering what the heck just happened!
In this continuation of last week's technique, Ricardo Liborio shares his technique for finish the choke from the crucifix position and also shows an armlock from the same position for an alternate finish.
In his first week with us Rolles Gracie shares some amazing technique for defending against single and double leg takedowns, and also shows transitions into a guillotine choke and an arm triangle. There is at least a full class worth of technique in this quick clip! Rolles father was Rolls Gracie, an amazing innovator of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. You can see that Rolles keeps up the family tradition by incorporating elements from differnt arts into his jiu jitsu so seamlessly and smoothly. It's hard to remember that he is a big guy when you watch him move.
In this video Rolles Gracie shares with us the result of years of practice and blending techniques he's learned from Ralph Gracie, Renzo Gracie, and Rillion Gracie. Standing to open the guard might be the only option when facing an opponent who is much stronger, or has long legs, but it can be tricky to do correctly. Rolles method provides lots of options for passing to either side and responding to various movements that your opponent might make during the pass.
In this segment of Expert of the Month, Ricardo Liborio shares some of the really important details he uses when trying to pass the half guard from top position. If you've ever been stuck here with someone who likes to stall in the bottom half guard you'll appreciate these techniques.
In this segment 7x World Champion Robson Moura shares one of his favorite sweeps, a nice variation from the De La Riva guard.
In his final week Dedeco goes deep into his trick bag to share some fantastic variations on his sit up guard. These are really clever techniques that you should really learn, very simple and very effective. Thanks so much to Dedeco for sharing this great technique with us. Make sure if you are in Massachusetts or Connecticut you look up Bestway BJJ and American Top Team, great schools and a lot of fun to train with!
